Relations of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Sultanate of Oman were established in April, 1992.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan Askar Mussinov to the Sultanate of Oman with residence in Riyadh presented the Letters of Credence to His Majesty Sultan Qabus bin Saeed on January 12, 2004.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Sultanate of Oman Mohammed Al-Lauati to the Republic of Kazakhstan accredited with the residence in Moscow.

Remarkable event of bilateral relations was the first visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.Nazarbayev to Oman in 1997 where Leader of Kazakhstan met with the Sultan of Oman Qabus ben Saeed. During the mentioned visit the Joint Memorandum on Mutual Understanding and Protocol on Consultations between Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan and Oman were signed.

The conformation of mutual interest of both sides to maintain and development bilateral relations was the visit of Finance Minister of the Sultanate of Oman Al-Makki in 1998 who was received by the authority of Kazakhstan. They discussed the issues of further economic ties and relations.

The Sultanate of Oman really contributed in Kazakhstan’s economy. In fact Oman has given 100 million USD credit on implementation of the strategic economic project. In 1998 Oman provided Kazakhstan with 10 million USD grant on development of new capital of Kazakhstan – Astana. Nowadays the palace “Saltanat Saraiy” financed by Oman is the one the most beautiful construction of Astana.

At the present time the Governments of two states are undertaking measures to elaborate the number of agreements in order to maintain and to develop bilateral relations in various fields.

In this connection, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman Mr. Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah visited Kazakhstan on September 4-6, 2004.

During the mentioned visit Omani Minister was received by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. N.Nazarbayev and had meetings with Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. K.Tokaev and Akim (Mayor) of Astana Mr. O.Shukeyev. Within the framework of negotiations the ways of further development of bilateral relations were discussed. Both sides aim at sustainable progress of political and economic cooperation.

On October 18-22, 2004 Minister of Trade and Industry of Oman, President of the Oman Oil Company Mr. Makboul bin Sultan visited Astana to meet Prime-minister of Kazakhstan D. Akhmetov, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources V.Shkolnik and representatives KazMunaiGas Company.

On December 14, 2005 in Astana during the visit of the Minister of Oil and Gas, Deputy Chairman of “Oman Oil Company” the Agreement on Delimitation of Products of “Pearl” Oilfield were sighed between Kazakhstan and Oman.

On December 7, 2005 Sultan Kabus became one of the first leaders who congratulated Head of Kazakhstan N.Nazarbayev with his victory on the Presidential Elections.

In this regard, on January 11, 2006 reprehensive delegation of the Government of Oman headed by the Minister of Heritage and Culture took part in Inauguration of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
